EHE In Touch - February 2011

Message from the Dean:
New dietary guidelines released

Cheryl AchterbergOn Jan 31, the U.S. departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services unveiled the 2010 Dietary Guidelines in Washington, D.C.

I worked with 12 prominent medical and scientific researchers on the advisory committee to suggest revisions to the 2005 Dietary Guidelines.

The new guidelines are meant to promote health, reduce the risk of chronic diseases and reduce the prevalence of being overweight and obese. We believe reducing calories is the key.

The guidelines recommend Americans eat less, consume more plant-based foods, and eat less salt and consume fewer sugary drinks.

Learn more about the guidelines and view a video on our website.

Cheryl Achterberg, Dean
