EHE In Touch - October 2011

Message from the Dean: Share the love of books with children

Cheryl Achterberg

On March 1, 2, 5 and 6, the EHE Alumni Society invites you to read to children at one of four elementary schools in Central Ohio to celebrate Read Across America.

The national initiative by the National Education Association honors Dr. Seuss' birthday and supports youth literacy.

We are partnering with Ohio State's College of the Arts and Sciences Alumni Society, which will coordinate reading in South-Western City Read Across AmericaSchools. Sean Thompson, our director of alumni relations, will coordinate reading in Upper Arlington School District classrooms. (more)

Live too far from Central Ohio to join in?

You can create your own Read Across America activity, especially if you're a teacher. Read how we are organized as a model for your own endeavor.

Cheryl Achterberg, Dean

Current Role: Owner/Senior Designer, Bliss Wedding and Event Design and Oh So Lovely Events

Professionally, I'm proud that I transitioned from a career in physical activity to launch my wedding and event business. Bliss Wedding & Event Design was voted Best of Weddings by the Knot 2010, 2011 and 2012. I received Business First's 2011 Forty under 40 Award, and Capital Style named two of our 2010 weddings as top 10 weddings of the year. I also serve others as co-founder and director of Cakes for a Cause, The Wedding Skills Workshop and founding Ohio chapter president of Wish upon a Wedding.

Interesting Fact: I have been scuba diving since age 12 with my dad and hope to take my two sons diving when they're older.
