Message from the Dean:
Your college leads educational reform

Cheryl AchterbergOhio is reforming its educational system, and your college, as Ohio’s flagship center for research in education and human ecology, is at the forefront of the movement.

We just received a $12.8 million, five-year federal grant to create a new model for teacher preparation in Ohio.

Our experts will apply strategies perfected through their years of research and experience.

We expect to graduate 720 teachers in high-need subjects, such as math and science, for hard-to-staff schools.

We are proud to conduct this project with the Ohio Board of Regents, the Ohio Department of Education, Columbus City Schools, and other vital partners.

Please read more about this historic endeavor.

Cheryl Achterberg, Dean

Help us rename EHE News Source

Last month, we invited your ideas for exciting new names for this EHE alumni e-newsletter.

Grand prize: a $50 gift certificate from an online vendor of Ohio State products. Plus the name becomes enshrined in the newsletter and you get credit.

Basic criteria: short (fits in e-mail subject line); doesn’t contain the phrase "EHE News" (that’s the title of our in-house faculty-staff newsletter, too confusing); clever or factual, either is fine; DOES contain "EHE."

Thanks to all who responded already. Everyone gets a chance. Please send ideas (no more than 2 each) to ehecommunications@osu.edu. Put "09 e-newsletter naming contest" in the subject line. Include your full name, degree, and year of graduation.

Deadline: December 31, 2009
