Message from the Dean:
How EHE research spreads...through you

Cheryl AchterbergSee Baby Discriminate” in the Sept 14 issue of Newsweek describes research by our own Jeane Copenhaver-Johnson, teaching and learning, Mansfield campus.

Originally published in Language Arts, the study is among the few showing how teachers and adults can mediate children's knowledge of race.

Such articles spread the word about how we, as part of a top-ranked public research university, are among the first and the few to seek new solutions to society's challenges.

Students also share our research knowledge. Education psychology doctoral student DeLeon Gray recently interned at the NIH Office of Science Education. The OSE blog shares his advice to NIH staff about student motivation research. Gray cites work of his advisor, Eric Anderman, and faculty Lynley Anderman, both educational policy and leadership.

You, our alumni and friends, also share knowledge from EHE research. You carry the word to others, augmented by your own research and experience. Please continue to spread the word.

Cheryl Achterberg, Dean

Help us rename EHE News Source

Crank up your clever names machine. We invite you to submit exciting new names for our monthly e-newsletter for EHE alumni.

Grand prize: a $50 gift certificate from an online vendor of Ohio State products. Plus the name becomes enshrined in the newsletter and you get credit.

Basic criteria: short (fits in e-mail subject line); doesn't contain the phrase “EHE News” (that's the title of our in-house faculty-staff newsletter, too confusing); clever or factual, either is fine; DOES contain “EHE.”

Please send ideas (no more than 2 or 3 each) to ehecommunications@osu.edu. Put “09 e-newsletter naming contest” in subject line. Include your full name, degree, and year of graduation.

Deadline: December 31, 2009
