Alumni Profiles

In this issue, we profile a father and son whose career successes demonstrate the benefits of our degree programs in education and human ecology.

Rick StuderRick Studer
MA, Educational Administration, 1972

Career: Senior Director of Development, Marketing, and Communications at Battelle for Kids (BFK), Columbus, Ohio

Professionally: I have "bookended" my professional life. I was a high school teacher and principal for 14 years. Between then and now I was primarily in marketing and strategic planning. Currently I am using my education and business background at BFK to have a positive impact on school improvement at a national level. I couldn't be happier.

Interesting fact: I am proud of, and humbled by, the personal and professional accomplishments of my family members.

Matt StuderMatt Studer
BS, Family Resource Management, 1992

Career: Owner - FLG Hospitality, Columbus, Ohio

Professionally: I own commercial real estate with a concentration in hotels. My company manages the hotels I own as well as manages hotels for others. In the hotel business, it's important to understand the consumer and what will motivate them to stay at one of our properties. Providing a quality, safe, and convenient place to stay is what we do; my education has prepared me well to take a look at our properties from the consumers' point of view.

Interesting fact: I've been to 20+ Grateful Dead concerts.
