Dr. Petosa is committed to developing research-based models of exercise behavior and applying these models to the design of effective programs. He has published extensively on the theoretical basis of health behaviors. His current research agenda includes: the measurement of free-living physical activity, computer and web-based interventions to promote maintenance of exercise, measurement and testing of theory-based determinants of physical activity, physical activity patterns across life stages, and the evaluation of interventions to promote health-related physical activity in community, work site, school and health care settings. Dr. Petosa recently received the Robert Russell Scholar Award and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Health Behavior.

Dr. Petosa teaches undergraduate courses in Health Program Planning and Health Promotion in the Workplace. He instructs graduate courses in Exercise Behavior Change and Evaluation in Health Education.
