First Education Experience Program (FEEP)

FEEP FAQs

1. What happens if I am not able to attend orientation?

Orientation attendance is mandatory for all students who have registered for the program. Lack of attendance will result in your dismissal from the program with the invitation to join us the following quarter. (We should be made aware ahead of time of any extenuating circumstances, such as family emergencies etc., that may impede your ability to be in attendance).

2. What happens if I do not have a copy of the results of my background checks (BCII & FBI) prior to orientation?

It is extremely important that you complete your background checks as soon as you receive your registration information. You will not be able to enter your placement until we have copies of your background checks on file. The results can take anywhere from two weeks to a month to receive. If you do not have a copy of the results prior to orientation, you will need to plan to participate in FEEP the following quarter.

3. Do I need to have both FBI and BCII checks completed if I am a resident of the state of Ohio?

Yes, many school districts in the area require us to have a record of both the BCII and FBI background checks on file before they will allow you to enter the schools and interact with students.

4. Can I have my background checks completed in my home town or home state or do they need to be completed here on campus?

We require students to complete their background checks on campus. We have noticed over time that those checks completed on campus have a faster turn around time and the campus police are familiar with the specific checks we require in our program.

5. Where do I have my background checks sent to?

Background checks can be mailed to your house or directly to the college at 185 Arps Hall, 1945 North High Street, Columbus, 43210, Attention Nina Dent.

6. I worked for an agency or employer that required me to have a background check completed, do I need to complete another one for FEEP?

Background checks are valid for a one year time period. If the check does not expire before the end of your FEEP experience, you will be able to use it. Be sure to make copies to bring with you to orientation. You will also need to be sure you have both a BCII and FBI check.

7. If I decide not to participate in FEEP for the quarter I applied for, do I need to reapply?

Yes.

8. Do I need to provide my own transportation?

Having your own transportation makes the FEEP experience much easier, but it is not necessary. We generally have other students in the program who are willing to transport students who do not have transportation. In light of today's gas prices, we highly suggest that those who do participate in carpools graciously offer monetary assistance to those providing transportation services. We also have had students use public transportation.

9. I am interested in an education profession other than teaching, is there a place for me?

Yes. You might be placed with a teacher, but you will have many opportunities to speak with and observe other school professionals as available. The entire experience is designed to give you exposure to the school setting in general.
