The Special Education program admits students to the undergraduate major once per year, during Spring Quarter. Most students apply to the program during Autumn Quarter of their sophomore year, though students who are beyond sophomore status are also eligible to apply. Students admitted to the program begin taking the prescribed curriculum during Spring Quarter. Regardless of student status when admitted (e.g. whether you are considered a sophomore, junior, or senior by the University in terms of earned credit hours), completion of the degree and program requirements will take two (2) additional years.

Applicants must submit documentation of the following:
 

1) A 2.75 or higher cumulative grade point average for 60 or more earned credit hours

2) Achievement of a grade of B- or higher in the following courses: 

  • English 110

  • Math 105

  • EDU PAES 251 (5 hrs) - Introduction to Special Education and Field Experience.
  • EDU PAES 271 (5 hrs) & 289.01 (3 hrs) – First Education Experience Program (FEEP)

Application Requirements

To be considered for admission to the program, all of the following items must be received by the application deadline:
Deadline for Spring Quarter admission: October 31, any calendar year

  • Application for Admission
  • Letter of Intent
  • Record of Work and Volunteer Experience
  • Official transcripts(s) of all college and university work (an OSU advising report is acceptable documentation of coursework completed at OSU
  • Three letters of recommendation
