Physical Education Teacher Education

Program Purpose, Goals, and Objectives

Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) prepares students to become physical education teachers in secondary schools and offers students the opportunity to earn an Ohio teaching license for Physical Education in grades kindergarten-12.

Careers include teaching physical education and coaching at secondary schools, as well as coaching at the collegiate level and Adapted physical education (graduate school).

Admission Requirements

Students who wish to enter the third year of the (PETE) track must have completed all classes listed in years 1 and 2 of the (PETE) curriculum plan, achieved a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average, and apply by April 1st during their sophomore year for student teaching that occurs during the third and fourth year of the program. Qualified applicants will be interviewed during spring quarter for admission into the program during the autumn quarter. Applications may be obtained in person and returned to A100 PAES Building. Students must pass the PRAXIS II exam by the beginning of their fourth year in the major to obtain a teaching license
