139.05 Introduction to Winter Backpacking

Previous True Backpacking Experience Required!

The Winter Backpacking course is for the individual with "true" backpacking experience, or has taken Backpacking 1, or Lightweight Backpacking. The course will be covering winter backcountry travel and living skills, but will not be teaching basic backpacking skills. We will cover the basic information that you need to know to select and use the proper equipment for a winter backpacking trip in the Mid-West. The course will include 3 class meetings and a weekend trip. We will leave for the trip in the afternoon on Friday and return late Sunday.

Includes: classroom sessions; transportation

Student Must Provide: food; boots; sleeping bag; eating utensils; proper attire for weather conditions; pack; sleeping pad; etc. (limited amounts of packs, and other equipment available for use through the program)

Do Not Buy Any Equipment Before Coming to the First Class Session!

minimum class size - 10; maximum class size - 14

  • All class sessions are mandatory. Any student not attending the first class session will be dropped from the class and replaced by others that are on the waiting list and in attendance of the class. Each student is responsible for adding or dropping the class with their college.
  • All classes require an additional trip / activity fee. All trip / activity fees must be paid in full by the second class session.
  • There will be no refund of any trip / activity fees at anytime.
