Unit Description

In this unit, students will apply their investigative and analytical skills to produce a newscast demonstrating how events have influenced the current job market. Students will also analyze current trends and make predictions for the future labor market (defined within career fields).

This unit is called "Is anybody paying attention?" In order to focus on the rapid changes in this "flat world" that keeps taking all of us off guard, we need to stay current and address issues that are impacting tomorrow's careers today. Students will study an issue that has impacted the labor market and write a six-minute newscast informing their peers about the issue. Students will practice and videotape their newscast.

Essential Questions

  • Why might someone have a job today but not tomorrow?

Critical/Driving Questions

  • What and how are social, economic, technical, and global trends impacting the labor market, families, and your future?
  • Why should teenagers be concerned about these job market changes and issues?
