Is Anybody Paying Attention?

Estimated Time: Six periods to produce, and two to view and write papers.
Student Knowledge/Skill Level: Students must know how to research a topic and write summaries.
Prerequisite Courses or Experiences: Students must be able to find and select reliable sources of information.
Pre-assessment: None
Materials Needed: Video cameras for student use. Newscasts can be published on a school website and downloaded to students I-pods to watch and/or listen, or copied to a CD to be viewed.
Facilities: Tables for cooperative learning, computers, Internet resources, video cameras, editing equipment, and software.
Business and Industry Resources: Experts, magazines (e.g., Business Week, Time, US World Report, Futurist), newspaper articles (e.g., USA Today, Wall Street Journal, local newspapers), nightly national and world news (e.g., CNN, CBS).
Other Local Assets: Identify local newscasters who may be interested in mentoring or coaching student work and/or reviewing the final products.
