Implementing the Unit

Estimated Time: Two weeks.

Student Knowledge / Skill Level: Beginning high school.

Prerequisite Courses or Experiences: Have an individual career plan from middle school.

Pre-assessment: Complete OCIS or Kuder assessments and compare to the middle-school career plan results. Based on these assessments, set a goal to consider planning a career in the designated career field. Complete an appropriate Program of Study for high school and necessary postsecondary education in the career field. Review resources and update your understanding of the career field and the career possibilities in that field. Identify personal, academic, and professional demands that are called for in this career field. Based on career fields identified through career self-assessments, your teacher will place you within a like-group to complete the inquiry in this unit.

Materials Needed: Foam-core or discarded cardboard for the board, cardstock paper, markers, printer, or other materials to make the game board and cards.

Facilities: Table space to work once the game and card content are determined.

Business and Industry Resources: Access to business/industry human resource personnel from your community.

Other Local Assets: School career counselors, with business/industry human resource assistance. Be sure to locate the person in your school district who can best help students design a Program of Study through postsecondary education.
