Print the Peace - Intermediate Conflict Inquiry Unit
Entry Event
It’s Peace Week in your school and your principal is sponsoring a "Spread the Peace" contest. In this contest, you must create a newspaper that demonstrates effective, peaceful, conflict-resolution strategies. Your newspaper must have an original name and you will work with a partner assigned to you. Set up your newspaper using a Design Set in Microsoft Publisher software or other publisher software. You will present your newspaper to a panel of administrators, counselors, and/or members of the community. Your newspaper must include the following sections:
Include an Entertainment Section
- Current events about two of your favorite celebrities in which conflict resolution strategies resulted in positive consequences, and an event where conflict led to negative consequences.
- Review and recommend two movies that focused on positive conflict resolution strategies.
- Review and recommend two songs that focus on positive conflict resolution strategies.
Include a Kids Corner
- Create a game, puzzle, or other interactive activity that uses characteristics of conflict resolution and its terminology.
- Draw, paint, or use the computer to illustrate how a conflict situation was positively resolved.
Include an Editorial Section
- Write a poem, song. or rap on peace, tolerance. or nonviolence.
- An advice column that gives three different conflict situations that a teen may face and three responses for the positive resolution of the conflicts.
- A one-page essay or story that discusses the consequences of violence or intolerance in society.
