Unit Description

In this inquiry, students will be investigating the process and skills necessary for building and maintaining healthy relationships as they experience transitions in life. In this particular unit, students are entering high school, where new relationships are beginning and they are experiencing the loss of others. The high school years are a time when they continue to build character traits that will launch them into their lives and careers. The inquiry will expect students to investigate what builds friendships, guides character development, and helps them develop new relationships and deal with losing others. Students will participate in developing, administering, and summarizing data from a survey about relationships and communication in relationships. The students will conduct interviews about real relationship problems, use a problem-solving process to consider the possibilities, and then write newspaper articles using their survey results and problem-solving information.
