Unit Description

In this inquiry, the goal is to engage students to study communication skills that will help resolve conflict situations -- especially bullying situations. We often think of bullying as something that happens to young children; however, bullying and victims come in all ages, genders, and sizes. Use the bully situation to study conflict and conflict resolution. Students will write and produce a story called "choose your own adventure." In this book, students will write a story that poses a conflict and then design alternate possibilities, or adventures, to explore outcomes related to communication skills and conflict resolution strategies.

Essential Questions

  • How do different feelings and perspectives influence conflict and its resolution?

Critical/Driving Questions:

  • Who is a bully? Who is a bully’s victim? Who and what actions can stop the bully?
  • What communication skills are required to talk through and resolve a conflict situation?
  • What strategies and steps might act as a guide to resolve conflict?
  • How do you explore alternative possibilities and their consequences to resolve conflict?
