CAEP Accountability Measures
The Ohio State University’s Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
Initial and advanced EPPs at The Ohio State University are accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) through 2026. CAEP accreditation indicates our programs successfully prepare new educators to effectively know their subject area, serve diverse groups of students, have meaningful preservice experiences, and use data to drive targeted program improvement.
Completer Impact and Effectiveness
Ohio's value-added (VA) data system provides information on student academic gains in specific content areas and grade levels. VA data demonstrates student progress within a given academic year and are used to inform instructional practices and teacher evaluations.
Data represented below reflect Ohio State completers with Resident Educator licenses provided by the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) reported by Ohio’s Education Value-Added Assessment System (EVAAS). Teachers receive colored classifications comparing their actual student growth in relation to the standard error (SE) above or below their expected growth within a year’s timeframe. They also receive index ratings as a quantifiable growth score.
Satisfaction of Employers and Stakeholder Involvement
Employer satisfaction surveys are used to gather input from targeted principals and district representatives in Ohio public schools who employ recent Ohio State initial licensure completers within their first four years. Questions ask responders to rate the effectiveness of the completers preparation in key areas, with a 3.0 mean indicating general agreement. The Administrator survey is distributed by OSU to targeted school leaders while the Partner survey1 is shared with district partners who also accept Ohio State candidates in field experiences.
Surveys are used to gather input from mentors each year about their experience working with Ohio State Educational Administration Programs’ candidates focused on their satisfaction with candidate preparedness. Mean responses are reflected below, where 3.0 or higher indicates agreement.
Candidate Competency at Program Completion
Ohio State initial licensure completers must pass state-required Ohio Assessment for Educator (OAE) licensure exams in their content area and grade level to demonstrate their proficiency in both content and pedagogy expertise. These exams are the main measure of their ability to meet license requirements.
Data below reflects the three-year trend for overall cohort pass rates. The years listed in the tables represent the cohort year for Ohio State and the academic year for the State comparisons.
Overall Initial Licensure Test Pass Rate Results by Cohort
Over three years, 94% or more of the Ohio State initial licensure cohorts have consistently passed their licensure tests at a higher rate (+8-12%) than the State average.

- Using Assessment Data to Drive Instruction - The UADDI assessment data for Measure #3 is not yet available due to the ongoing pilot and IRR study. The EPP plans to conclude the pilot in Spring 2023, and data for the measure are expected to be shared publicly in Spring 2024.

The Ohio State University’s Advanced Educator Preparation Programs track candidates’ ability to meet state licensure test requirements. School Psychology candidates must pass the PRAXIS 5402 School Psychology exam and Principal candidates must pass the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) 015 Educational Leadership test to be eligible for Ohio licensure. Completers from both programs take their assessment at the conclusion of their program.

Ability of Completers to be Hired
The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) provides Ohio State data on employment in instructional roles in Ohio public schools. From this data, employment and retention rates can be calculated as an outcome measure of effectiveness. ODHE reports employment for candidates for only four years post their licensure effective date although they may remain employed.
Note: The number/percent retained for each year is based on the previous year’s total employment for each cohort. Retained data reflect completers remaining employed within the same district from year to year.
