edTPA

What is edTPA?

The Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) is a summative portfolio-based assessment of teaching that assesses candidates' readiness for the field. The edTPA Fact Sheet provides an additional overview of the assessment.

What is the format of edTPA?

Student teachers complete three tasks: (a) Planning for Instruction and Assessment, (b) Instructing and Engaging Students in Learning, and (c) Assessing Student Learning. Candidates are required to analyze their teaching and address academic language across tasks. Candidates submit artifacts (such as lesson plans and learner work samples) and respond to commentary prompts. The final edTPA portfolio is submitted to Pearson through Tk20 and scored by educators and faculty with subject-area expertise.

Who needs to complete edTPA?

All initial teacher licensure candidates complete edTPA.

When does edTPA need to be completed?

The edTPA is completed during the semester of student teaching. Details are available from your program managers.

How do candidates register for edTPA?

Candidates will register on the edTPA website: http://www.edtpa.com/. The edTPA Registration Instructions for Student Teachers document provides step-by-step instructions for this process.

What is the cost of edTPA?

The cost to submit an edTPA portfolio is $300.

How do candidates submit their final portfolio for scoring?

The Tk20 help guide for edTPA
provides step-by-step instructions for submitting the final portfolio to Tk20 and Pearson.

The Tk20 User Guidelines for Video Uploads
provides instructions on how to format and upload videos, as well as other important guidelines.

Who do I contact for questions I have about edTPA?

  • Faculty, staff, lecturers and program managers can contact the edTPA Coordinator in the Office of Accreditation, Placement, and Licensure with questions pertaining to implementation.
