Field Placements

The Office of Accreditation, Placement, and Licensure offers separate handbooks that are applicable to the various field placements you will experience in your journey to be an educator.  In each handbook, you will find basic policies, requirements, as well as resources to ensure you are on track to becoming a licensed teacher.

Required Documentation

The Office of Accreditation, Placement, and Licensure requires any student engaged in a field placement experience involving children or youths—regardless of length or purpose—to submit the following items:

  1. Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI&I) background check.
  2. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) national background check.

  4. Current resume.
    1. Sample resume #1 (contains some work experience)
    2. Sample resume #2 (contains more work experience)
    3. Sample resume #3 (contains significant work experience)
  5. Activities with Minors Policy Video and Quiz.
    Directions: The link will take you to BuckeyeLearn. After logging in, click “Browse Training” and search through the list of available trainings for the Activities and Programs with Minors Participants Policy Training 2018. A copy of your Certificate of Completion will be required as evidence of your completion.
  6. Complete a Standards of Behavior form, and send/email it as indicated below.

All documents must be received by the Office of Accreditation, Placement, and Licensure before the student is allowed to attend their placement.

At the end of spring semester, documents 3-6 (see above) must be resubmitted for the next school year. The school year is considered summer semester through spring semester.

District Policies for Background Checks (Columbus Campus Students)

It is a federal law that no one other than the person listed on a background check can distribute a copy of the background check to a third person. Therefore, in the districts that require to see a copy of background checks, the STUDENT, must deliver it to the district office at least one day PRIOR to their required reporting day. This means the student will need to go to Human Resources, 1590 N. High Street, Suite 300, with a photo ID, to obtain a copy of their background checks to distribute to their district. Different districts have different policies on delivery of such documents. Please look up your district here to see what their background and reporting policies are for admittance into their buildings. If you still have questions, please contact your program manager.

For Program Managers, Faculty, and University Supervisors

Placement Procedures

Each program has a program manager or a faculty member who is responsible for making decisions on the particulars of each of their students’ placements. However, the Office of Accreditation, Placement, and Licensure serves as the liaison between the school district or agency in helping each program secure approval for the field placement.
