Ohio State’s ninth Hiphop Literacies Conference is an academic-community event designed to explore issues relevant to the lives of the hiphop generation of youth and their communities. The theme this year is “Hiphop and Queer/Trans Black Feminisms,” honoring LGBTQ+ contributions to hiphop and a more equitable society.

This interdisciplinary conference promotes research and teaching, while stimulating ongoing dialogue and outreach across the university, local community and beyond.

The conference is free and takes place at the Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center on The Ohio State University’s Columbus campus.

The free concert will be held in-person only at the Lincoln Theatre, 769 E. Long St., Columbus, Ohio, Friday, March 31, with doors opening at 7 p.m. The concert is free but with limited seating.

The conference was founded and is co-directed this year by Elaine Richardson, professor of Literacy Studies, Department of Teaching and Learning. Her co-directors are Ohio State’s Treva Lindsay, who is also a keynote speaker, and Gwendolyn Pough of Syracuse University.

Co-sponsors are the Education Foundation for Freedom and multiple units of The Ohio State University, including the College of Education and Human Ecology’s Office of Equity, Diversity and Global Engagement.
