National Qualitative Research Webinar: “The Empirical and the New Empiricisms”
Sophia Jeong, assistant professor of science education in the college, will co-facilitate a workshop, co-sponsored by the college, as part of the University of Georgia’s Post Qualitative Inquiry Lecture Series featuring internationally renowned Professor Elizabeth ‘Bettie’ St. Pierre.
Jeong’s co-facilitator workshop facilitator is Saralyn McKinnon-Crowle, assistant professor of higher education studies and leadership at Baylor University.
Their workshop will focus on applying new empiricisms in post-qualitative research within science education. Participants will explore how these theories can transform traditional research approaches by emphasizing materiality, context and the interplay of human and non-human actors in learning. Through interactive discussions and vignettes, attendees will critically analyze their research practices and identify innovative methodologies.
The workshop will also address challenges in integrating these concepts into science education curricula, equipping participants with actionable insights for their research and preparing them for the subsequent lecture by St. Pierre that same day, 3:30 – 5 p.m.
Both events are free but require registration.
