O-H-I-O pose in DC

After witnessing the Buckeyes’ victory over the Maryland Terrapins in October, Jamie Kanehl (’13 Human Development and Family Science) had a lot to cheer about.

While in the area, visiting the historic Lincoln Memorial was on her to-do list and she made sure her friends tagged along.

From left to right, EHE student Drew Leininger (’15 Human Development and Family Science), alumni Kanehl and Ashleigh Schroeder (’13 Human Development and Family Science) displayed their Buckeye love with their friend and fellow Buckeye Chris Clark.

A degree that offers a multidisciplinary approach to intimate and familial relationships prepared Kanehl for her current studies at Duke University. “In classes and clinicals as a nursing student, I feel very prepared due to my background in HDFS,” she said.

“HDFS is a combination of the biology, sociology and psychology of human development across the lifespan,” the Jacksonville, Florida, native said. “My degree helps me interact with all patients and understand all stages of life.”

Two faculty members had a major impact on Kanehl: Human Sciences faculty members Claire Kamp Dush and Anita Parker. “They taught me professional writing skills and the importance of cultural competence for my life and career,” she said.

After graduating from nursing school, Kanehl has her sights set on becoming a midwife and family nurse practitioner.

“My program equipped me with various tools and knowledge to help me succeed in nursing school and it will help me have continued success throughout my career.”
