Biography
Patricia A. Brosnan is an associate professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning. She received her PhD in Mathematics and Computer Science Education at the State University of New York at Buffalo, a MEd at University of Pennsylvania and a BS in mathematics at John Carroll University. Brosnan taught for 13 years in secondary mathematics and computer science prior to joining the faculty at The Ohio State University more than 25 years ago.
She has served as a national Team Leader for the Mathematics Teacher Education Partnership, PME Task Force, Vice President and Conference Chair for Ohio Council for Teacher Mathematics, Co-Chair of Ohio Mathematics Education Leadership Council and on Program Committees for National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Phi Mu Epsilon and School Science and Mathematics Association. She has published in the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, Teaching Exceptional Children, Focus on Learning Problems in Mathematics, and Teaching Mathematics in the Middle School.
Brosnan has received the Ohio ASCD Educational Leadership Award and the Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award from Ohio State’s College of Education.
Currently, Dr. Brosnan serves as the executive director of the Mathematics Coaching Program, now in its 10th year, demonstrating Brosnan’s research interests in improving struggling students’ mathematics achievement as well as improving teachers’ mathematics content and pedagogical knowledge. This research parlayed into preliminary successes in developing the Co-Planning and Co-Teaching Apprenticeship for Learning model for pre-service and in-service teachers.

Research Summary
Brosnan’s research interests are in improving struggling students’ mathematics learning as well as improving teachers’ mathematics content and pedagogical knowledge.
She is the executive director of the Mathematics Coaching Program, now in its 10th year, that focuses on training coaches in research-based strategies for the teaching and learning of mathematics for which they work full time providing classroom-embedded professional development to teachers in their own classrooms.
Brosnan is the founder of the Co-Planning and Co-Teaching program which is an enhanced clinical experience model for mentors and interns to use during student teaching. Many of the department’s licensure areas are now considering adoption of this model that has also been implemented in eight other states.
