Moore honored by Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities
James L. Moore III, professor of counselor education, was honored with the 2022 Michael P. Malone International Leadership Award from the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU).
Moore has launched numerous international initiatives to benefit Ohio State students, enabling them to engage in multicultural educational opportunities on campus and abroad.
He has facilitated international partnerships and the sharing of best practices, provided professional opportunities for staff and established funding sources that have made international experiences a reality for underrepresented students.
Urban and Rural Initiative, Culturally Responsive Leadership Institute launched
Muhammad Khalifa, professor of education administration, brought his considerable experience in school leadership to two new initiatives for the college.
He began the Urban and Rural Initiative by engaging in a listening tour of school district leaders, students, community members and more at some of Ohio’s urban and rural school districts. During each session, he listened for and is formulating plans for opportunities to:
• Join faculty with community or school/institutional partners in collaborative research
• Offer equity-based professional development
• Share and translate research that will positively impact education
New Project R.O.O.T. aims to “grow your own” future teachers
This past summer, the college hosted rising high school juniors and seniors from eight school districts across central Ohio for the Project R.O.O.T. Summer Experience, or Reaching Our Own Through Teaching. The three-day program on campus, managed by Clinical Assistant Professor of Secondary Education Jenell Igeleke Penn, addresses the national educator shortage in a way that helps diversify the field and introduces potential educators to exciting possibilities in the field.
The R.O.O.T. project is one of the college’s initiatives managed by Penn to recruit, mentor and retain future teachers for diversity and social justice.
