Speaker 1:
I chose the College of Education and Human Ecology because of all of the experiences they had to offer for me as a student.
Not only the resources but the very well-known faculty nationally and internationally as well.
The moment I realized I could attend Ohio State and I would have enough funds to do so was amazing.
I was jumping around the house. My mom was jumping around the house. I think I saw my grandma clear a few inches off the floor at one point.
We were just all so excited.
The support from the scholarships have allowed me to be more of a student at Ohio State while still being a full-time student teacher.
I have the time to enjoy Ohio State while I'm still here.
Receiving a scholarship means a lot.
It gives me opportunities that at one point I would just hope for and now those realities have been coming true.
Receiving a scholarship has just meant the world to me because I get to experience such a high level of diversity and a large experience that I never would've gotten otherwise.
People like you are the reason why a lot of students strive. Thank you very much.

My name is Taryn Goudy and I'm a Senior majoring in Consumer and Family Financial services in the College of Education and Human Ecology.
I received the Grace T and Dorothy H. Henderson Memorial Scholarship and the Margaret B Gill Scholarship. These scholarships have made a huge impact on my life and have helped me to follow my dreams and achieve my goals. College has always been stressful for me because of the financial burden it's placed on me.
So these scholarships have helped to relieve that burden a little bit.
I plan to sit for the Certified Financial Planning exam this coming November. And it really wouldn't have been possible without the help and support of these scholarships.
I just look forward to continuing to do everything I love and excelling in my career in the future. And I am very thankful for the opportunity to receive these scholarships.

Hello, my name is Micheala Dengg, she, her, hers, and I am a second year PhD student in Higher Education and Student Affairs.
I am one of the lucky recipients of the Earl W. Anderson Memorial Fund, the Jack A. Culbertson Award Fund and the Ruth Weimer Mount Fellowship Fund. Thank you so much for that.
I am an international student from Germany. And I actually came to the US in August of 2020, in the middle of the pandemic.
And I believe up until seven or eight days before the actual semester started, I didn't even know if I was going to be able to come to the United States with the state of the world.
So I am very lucky to be here. I used to work as a study abroad advisor in Germany and my research now focuses on internationalization of higher education.
So I would very much like to go back to the field of international higher education. And with these scholarship opportunities, I was actually able to try NAFSA Association of International Educators, which has provided me with so much knowledge and so much opportunities to actually be able to make a difference in the field of international higher ed, and I look forward to putting my research into practice.
Thank you so much for the scholarships.

Speaker 1:
Hi, my name is Lisa DelaCruz Combs. I am a second year Doctoral student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program here at Ohio State.
As a student, I've been able to receive multiple scholarships as an undergraduate and a graduate student. When I was an undergraduate student, I received the Morrill Scholarship which covered my tuition. And as a PhD student, I've been lucky enough to receive a Graduate Enrichment Fellowship and the Inclusive Excellence Fellowship. I've also received multiple other scholarships related to travel and research from the Educational Studies Department.
These scholarships have been so helpful to me during my time as a student, as a first generation multiracial woman of color, access to higher education was always a difficult one. Because of these scholarships, I was able to attend Ohio State.
Without them I wouldn't be here and I'm so incredibly grateful for the opportunities that these scholarships have given me. The this is not only included my tuition and my ability to study at the university, but also my ability to engage research and scholarship and conference and travel opportunities, which has been so helpful in preparing for a career as a faculty member after I'd graduated with my PhD.
I want to thank you all for supporting students like me, and achieving our goals.

My name is Chelsea Gilbert. I use she, her pronouns and I am a second year Doctoral student in Educational Studies in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program.
Prior to this, I worked for eight years as a higher education and student affairs practitioner. And I am so so fortunate and grateful to be able to have this gift to study.
My scholarship actually focuses on experiences of people who work in higher education, as I myself once did, and I would not be able to pursue my degree full time without the support of generous donors, like yourself, I hope in the future to be able to be a faculty member teaching and training future higher education and student affairs professionals and ultimately want to contribute to a more just and equitable world and the scholarship is helping me to do that.
So thank you again.

Hello, my name is Francisco Soto, I'm a fourth year Morrill Scholar in College of Education in Human Ecology, majoring in Exercise Science Education with a minor in Spanish for Business.
So just to give you a brief backstory this past summer, I was participating in a summer course that I believe wouldn't could be funded by my Morrill Scholarship.
But unfortunately, that was not the case due to the semester constraint, and finishing up this last year fully funded.
So feeling that financial burden, I reached out to the College of Education and Human Ecology, and they were able to find me and award me, the Shepherd Foundation Fund really on short notice to which I'm eternally grateful, it cover the full cost of my course.
And so tonight, I say thank you. So for my future who I will be becoming a physical therapist, and that drive really stems from my desire to help, which is what donors do every year, year in and year out.
And so as well, I can't speak for everyone. I truly do think that I share the common opinion that our gratitude soars through the roof. And I really hope that one day I can do what you guys do for so many students.
So thank you again and Go Bucks!

Hi, my name is Stephanie Welch Grenier. I'm originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
I am a doctoral student here at Ohio State University. I'm grateful for this opportunity to thank the donors today that made this scholarship possible for me.
I was given a unique opportunity to work at a Lighthouse for the Blind and meet a different need for students that were at risk.
The field that I'm in working with students with visual impairments is a very small field. There are only a handful of universities across the country that offer degrees in visual impairments and Ohio State just happens to be one of them.
The scholarship award has allowed me to focus on my studies and take a step back from the contracts that I do tend to work throughout the year.
I typically hold multiple contracts and with the scholarship I was able to drop a contract and really focus on my studies and not have to give up a lot of time with my family which is very important for a mom who is in school and working.

Stephanie is a doctoral student pursuing a degree in visual impairments and received The American Council of the Blind of Ohio Scholarship Fund Award.
