Building Brighter Futures
Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy and the Schoenbaum Family Center
What do you get when you pair researchers and teachers under one roof to shape the future of early childhood?
About us
We are the nation’s model for integrating early childhood research, practice and policy to improve children’s well-being and future potential. We conduct state-of-the-art research, and we translate research to improve policies and policies affecting children and their families.
We also directly serve more than 500 young children across Franklin County, including at our on-site A. Sophie Rogers School for Early Learning, a model demonstration school in the state of Ohio. The school and the Crane Center are both located in the Schoenbaum Family Center at Weinland Park.
With your support, we can:
- Support early childhood educators to enhance their skills and reinforce their commitment to the profession
- Provide year-round, high-quality early childhood education to children and families in need
- Conduct cutting-edge research on how to improve early childhood education quality, teacher retention and kindergarten readiness
The legacy of gift giving
1985: The A. Sophie Rogers School for Early Learning, established in 1925, was named in 1985 in memory of this Ohio State professor and Columbus pediatrician, thanks to a gift from the A. Sophie Rogers Foundation.
2007: The Schoenbaum Family Center opened in Weinland Park, supported by a gift from Betty Schoenbaum, who believed in creating a larger space for early childhood research, teaching and service.
2013: The Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy was founded through a gift from the Crane family. It is co-located with the Schoenbaum Family Center to integrate research and practice.
