Biography
Barbara Boone is a program director in the Center on Education and Training for Employment. In this role, she leads a team that practices translational research for family engagement in education – bringing the discoveries of research to application in state and national policy and to practice in classrooms, homes, and communities.
Dr. Boone is a Principal Investigator on numerous initiatives including research, training, technical assistance, resource development, and outreach. She has been the Director of the federally funded, Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center project at The Ohio State University since 2018.
Dr. Boone has more than 30 years of experience in education and family and community engagement. She has been a director at the Ohio Department of Education, an education consultant, program evaluator, and early childhood educator. Specifically, her expertise lies in the interaction of families, schools, and communities and the impact on adult behavior, systems change, and outcomes for children preschool through high school.

Current research projects of Dr. Boone include school-home communication, family-child interactions related to financial literacy, and family behaviors associated with student learning.

Dr. Boone’s projects have received funding from the U.S. Department of Education, the Ohio Department of Education, the Wallace Foundation, local school districts, the Ohio Department of Health, The Salvation Army of Central Ohio, and the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Boone’s work is published in the School Community Journal, Literacy Today, and Ohio School Boards Journal. Each year she produces briefs, guides, tools, measurement instruments, and training materials for education practitioners and families.
