Biography

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher, Lecturer, Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) in the Exercise and Behavioral Medicine Laboratory at The Ohio State University. My background is in designing and implementing group-mediated and theory-based exercise, dietary and behavioral counseling interventions in chronic disease populations examining the effects of intervention on quality of life, body composition and other psychophysiological determinants of health in chronic disease populations. Currently, my primary objective is to address health inequities in rural cancer prevention and control by promoting adoption and maintenance of self-regulated lifestyle behavior change through providing access to efficacious, theory-based interventions, while examining change in clinical and quality of life outcomes. Secondarily, I am focused on addressing the pressing issue of behavior change maintenance and weight regain following primary intervention

Research Interests

Research Summary

Findings from my research contribute to the feasibility of community-based and remotely-delivered interventions, efficacy of interventions for producing improvements in clinical and quality of life outcomes, knowledge of how to effectively promote lifestyle behavior change and maintenance, and utility of integrating behavioral weight management in the routine prevention and control of chronic disease.

  1. The Collaborative Lifestyle Intervention Program in overweight/obese knee osteoarthritis patients trial (CLIP-OA)
  2. Weight loss maintenance in overweight/obese knee osteoarthritis patients following primary intervention pilot trial
  3. Feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a community-based weight management intervention in overweight/obese breast cancer survivors (HNABC)
  4. A Group-Mediated Cognitive Behavioral Resistance Exercise Intervention in Head and Neck Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemoradiation Treatment (HNCaRE)
  5. Addressing obesity to reduce cancer risk and health disparities in underserved populations: The Home-based Exercise in Rural Ohio (HERO)
  6. Virtually-delivered resistance exercise and group-based behavioral therapy for rural endometrial cancer survivors during treatment (RECOMP)
  7. Feasibility of an Multi-component Exercise Intervention on Microbiome and Immune Function in a High-Risk Cohort for Lung Cancer (BE-FIT)
  8. Remotely monitored, Mobile health supported Multidomain Rehabilitation Program with High Intensity Interval Training for COVID-19 (REMM-HIIT-COVID19)
  9. Undergraduate college students’ health behaviors: a mixed-methods needs analysis examining exercise, diet and psychological well-being
