I have taught at the post-secondary level since 1999 and have also served in various administrative and other roles in education over the past 13 years. Past roles include faculty development leader, learning specialist, director of technology and non-traditional learning, and K-5 technology liaison. My most recent courses taught, since coming to Ohio State in 2010, include Adolescent Development, Intro to Educational Research and Intro to Educational Statistics. Past courses include Psychological Foundations of Education, Computers in Education, Technology for Classroom Integration, Professional Issues in Teaching, and Technology for Decision Making in Teaching and Learning. My research interests include: instructional/learning strategies and cognition, interactive learning technologies, and academic success in at-risk, adolescent/young adult populations. Areas of practical focus include: Psychology applied to teaching/learning, instructional design (specifically learner characteristics and instructional methods), blended learning, course internationalization, and research methods (with focus on mixed-method approaches).

Current Funded ProjectsA Preliminary Analysis of Factors Influencing Students' Transition to Middle School and their School Attendance. This is an internally funded mixed-methods study for which I am one of several co-investigators. We are investigating the relationship between middle school transition and student attendance. I am leading the quantitative data collection and analysis component.eTech Ohio Teacher Planning Grant. This is a state-agency funded project that brings together three school districts, a virtual school, and university faculty. The project involves creation of an Online Community of Practice designed to prepare in-service and pre-service teachers (specifically middle school math educators) to integrate information and communication technologies into content-area instruction. I am one of several co-investigators and I am primarily responsible for designing data collection instruments for the initial needs assessments and for assessment of project-end objectives.
