Join us for AI in Education: Recent Developments and Classroom Implications, a dynamic webinar featuring expert panelists responding to timely questions about AI’s role in teaching and learning. Each panelist will present a brief, focused response on key issues including classroom integration, educator preparation, and ethical considerations. The session will be moderated by Detra Price, Executive Director of the Center for Digital Learning and Innovation and Professor of Teaching and Learning. It will culminate in an open discussion on the future of AI in education, audience Q&A, and a collective exploration of the guardrails needed to ensure responsible and impactful implementation.
Moderator

Detra Price is the Executive Director of the Center for Digital Learning and Innovation and a Professor of Teaching and Learning at The Ohio State University's College of Education and Human Ecology. Her award-winning scholarship draws on ethnographic and sociocultural lenses to examine the intersection of critical literacy education, learning technologies, and equity-based curriculum development in K-8 classrooms. Professor Price has extensive research experience with digital literacies, equity-oriented pedagogies, curriculum design, and learning technologies. She has developed and led initiatives for professional organizations, institutions of higher education, and K-12 school districts to support the exploration of impactful teaching practices that intersect with online learning and culturally responsive pedagogies.
Panelists

Mariah Hagadone-Bedir is a PhD candidate in Educational Studies at The Ohio State University, with a master’s degree in Critical Studies of Education from Ohio University. Her research explores the integration of emerging technologies like AI and XR into education, with a focus on personalized learning, online learning, and data privacy. Taking a systems-level perspective, she investigates how digital technologies interact with and can be effectively embedded within workflows.

Larry Hurtubise, M.A., PhD is a curriculum and instruction consultant at the Ohio State University’s Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning where he leads the development of programming for educators learning to teach in light of GenAI. During his 25 year career at Ohio State, Larry has served in a variety of educational developer roles focused on the adoption of educational technologies. These roles include Senior Instructional Designer in the Health Sciences Center for Knowledge Management and founding member of the College of Medicine’s Center for Education and Scholarship. He designed professional development programs related to curriculum design, medical education research and a host of educational technologies. He received a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Ohio University where he studied the professional identity formation of clinician educators.

Brett Vogelsinger is an English teacher at Central Bucks High School South in Pennsylvania with over two decades of experience teaching in middle and high school. He is the author Poetry Pauses: Teaching With Poems to Elevate Student Writing in All Genres, and his new book, Artful AI in Writing Instruction, about the use of generative AI in secondary writing instruction is coming in June from Corwin Literacy. He is the founder of Go Poems and a frequent contributor and webinar creator for Moving Writers. He delivers keynote speeches and professional development for teachers.
