Susan Bandy is Senior Lecturer in sport industry in the Department of Human Sciences. She earned her PhD in Sport Studies from Arizona State University. Before joining the faculty at OSU, she taught at the Hungarian University of Physical Education in Budapest and Aarhus University in Denmark.

Her expertise pertains to the cultural study of sport with particular emphasis on sport literature, the participation of women in sport and gender and the body. She teaches courses in sport and popular culture and sport and social values in the Sport Industry program.

She has published articles in Aethlon: The Journal of Sport Literature, The International Journal of the History of Sport, The Olympic Review, and Dansk Sociologi. She has also published several books related to sport literature including: Coroebus Triumphs: The Alliance of Sport and the Arts (1988); Crossing Boundaries: An International Anthology of Women’s Experiences in Sport (with Anne S. Darden, 1999); and Litterære fortællinger om idræt i Norden: Helte, erindringer og identitet (Scandinavian Sport Literature: Heroism, Memory and Identity) with Vicki Bjerre (2010). She edited two special issues of Aethlon: The Journal of Sport Literature, the first of which was devoted to women, sport, and literature (1997) and another concerning sport and drama (2011). She published Gender, Body and Sport in Historical and Transnational Perspectives (2007) with Annette Hofmann and Arnd Krüeger, With Gigliola Gori, she is co-editor of the biennial issue of The International Journal of the History of Sport devoted to Sport, Women, Society: International Perspectives.
