Research Summary

Her research agenda focuses on issues associated with the promotion of motor skill development and physical activity in young children who are at-risk and/or economically disadvantaged. To date, her work has shown that young children who are disadvantaged demonstrate substantial delays in fundamental motor skill development and the communities in which they live have significant barriers to timely motor development and physical activity. She has implemented numerous motor skill interventions demonstrating significant improvements in fundamental motor skill development for the children involved as well as improvements in psycho-social factors associated with physical activity. Dr. Goodway has also found that contextual variables such as family demographics, type and number of risk factors, and, community and cultural factors influence motor development. She has published 2 book chapters, 25 plus articles, 50 research abstracts, and has made over 100 presentations.
