EHE alumni, students have big role in 1st national championship
The College of Education and Human Ecology is congratulating our alumni, graduate assistants and students who were central to the Buckeye win over the University of Oregon in the first College Football Playoff National Championship Jan. 12, 2015, in Arlington, Texas.
Coaches
Urban Meyer
Head coach Urban Meyer, who received a master’s degree in sports administration in 1988, told reporters that the 2014 squad was a “unique team.” The victory against the Ducks was Meyer’s third national championship.
Luke Fickell, defensive coordinator/linebacker coach, earned a BS in exercise science education in 1997. He told Cleveland.com, "Coach has always said and I've always said and everyone before has always said, it's not about just one team or one guy or one person or one coach. This is a special place."

Tim Hinton (‘87 MA education) is the assistant coach for tight ends and fullbacks. And Mickey Marotti, assistant athletic director for football sports performance, received his master’s degree in health, physical education and recreation in 1988.
Graduate assistants
The EHE graduate assistants who contributed to the team this season are:
- Defense: Jon Carpenter, Kinesiology; and Vince Oghobaase (’14 , human development and family science), Sports Administration.
- Offense: Adrian Mayes, Sport Administration; and Quinn Tempel (’13, sport and leisure studies), Sports Administration.
