Sport Industry Minor Course Descriptions
The minor will require 15 credit hours. The two required courses prepare students to turn their passion for sport into professional opportunity by covering the skills in: management, leadership, organizational theory, consumer behavior and career readiness.
The additional courses provide opportunities for students to complement their major degree from a sport focus with an emphasis in legal aspects of sport, college sport trends, marketing, branding and licensing.
KNSISM 3208 The Sport Industry (3)
Examination of the Sport Industry.
KNPE 4245 Leadership and Programming in Sports Industry (3)
Methods of leadership and programming in sport industry organizations.
KNSISM 2250 Name, Image, and Likeness in Intercollegiate Athletes (3)
Students will be introduced to the everchanging world of name, image, and likeness (NIL) in intercollegiate athletics. In providing a history of the NCAA's control over athletes' NIL, students will study the effectiveness of NIL policies and the advantages/disadvantages for various stakeholders. Topics include NIL collectives, athletics boosters and third-party management of NIL platforms.
KNSISM 3550 Entertainment and Brand Licensing in Sport, Fashion, and Hospitality Industries (3)
This course will provide the student with a basic introduction into the world of sport and entertainment brand licensing. The licensing of brands, characters, sports team names, college logos and artwork, often called 'merchandising,' has become a huge business; the course will take students through the various steps of identifying, protecting and conducting a licensing program.
KNSISM 4411 College Sport (3)
Historical development of college sport; influence of race, class and gender; mass media; consumer society; place of college sport in American higher education and culture.
KNSISM 4509 Sport Marketing and Promotion (3)
Issues related to the marketing and promotion of sport.
KNSISM 4607 Legal Aspects of Sport (3)
Introduction to the American legal system and major cases/laws which make up sports law.
