University leadership transition

March 11, 2026

With the recent announcement of President Carter’s resignation, I want to reaffirm that the mission of the College of Education and Human Ecology — to advance education, health and wellbeing, and economic vitality to enhance the communities we serve on campus, in Ohio, across the nation and around the world — remains our north star as the university navigates this leadership transition.

Moments like these can naturally prompt reflection, yet I remain confident in the strength, resilience and shared purpose of our community. The clarity of our mission and the dedication of our partners continue to guide our work, even as leadership roles evolve at the university level.

I also have full confidence in the university’s leadership as they steward this transition thoughtfully and transparently. Their commitment to stability and continuity ensures that the work of the college continues without interruption.

As a college, we remain steadfast in advancing key initiatives that reflect our long term goals and our commitment to innovation, impact and partnership. We continue to strengthen academic programs, expand research and community engagement, and deepen the collaborations that make our mission possible. These efforts reflect the momentum we have built together — momentum that will continue to propel us forward.

Throughout this period of change, our focus remains on fostering a respectful and supportive environment for our students, faculty, staff and partners. Our community’s strength is rooted in our shared commitment to integrity, collegiality and mutual respect.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for the generosity and trust you place in our mission. Your support enables us to advance work that strengthens communities and expands opportunity, and we are deeply grateful as we move forward together.

Thank you,

Erik Porfeli, PhD
Professor and Interim Dean
