What's in it for you:

  1. Fully accredited program, meeting national and state curricular standards and the Association for Middle Level Education teacher preparation standards.

  2. Learn disciplinary content knowledge, educational foundations along with pedagogy and methods courses which focus on early exposure to child development and psychological and social foundations of education.

  3. Social and historical literacy embedded throughout the curriculum, focused on perspective taking using current events around the world.

Hands-on experience from the start

From your introduction to your education major to full-time student teaching, Ohio State has developed a program that not only gives you first-class education, but numerous opportunities to experience what it is like to be a teacher in the field that you will be ready for your career from day 1.

First Education Experience Program

A service-learning course that gives a first-hand look at the education field by spending time in 4th - 9th grade classrooms and other settings. Education abroad is also possible.

Pre-education field experience

Provides undergraduate students the opportunity to work in a supervised professional setting at schools or community agencies prior to starting major coursework.

MIddle Childhood introductory field experience

This semester-long experience is taken once you start your middle childhood education coursework in the classroom for the fourth to ninth grade licensure.

Middle Childhood advanced field experience

In the advanced field experience, you will be in a classroom two days per week taking on some teaching responsibilities and developing relationships with a teacher mentor and students.

A culminating experience is a full-time practicum that permits you to confidently take on the role of teacher for an in-depth quality experience to end your bachelor’s program.

minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA; minimum 2.75 GPA in content courses

Students are directly admitted to the Middle Childhood program. 

Must demonstrate nearly all pre-major/GE courses completed with minimum GPA
