Academic Status
At the end of each academic term, your enrollment and grades will be reviewed to determine if you have made satisfactory academic progress. Your performance will be reviewed by a committee in the College of Education and Human Ecology to ensure you are meeting the requirements for both your pre-major and University standards.

Academic Action
College Special Action Probation:
To remain in good standing in your pre-major you must meet the standards for academic progress established for admissions into your intended major. These will vary by program, but typically include a review of your cumulative GPA and progress in pre-major coursework.
Academic Probation:
To remain in good standing at the University, you must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA. If your GPA drops below a 2.0, you are not making satisfactory progress towards obtaining a degree at Ohio State. You will receive an email notification of your probation information after your grades have been reviewed, typically one to two weeks after final grades for the previous term have posted.
Dismissal
If you do not meet the terms of your probation, you may be eligible for dismissal. Depending on your probation status and your academic performance, you could be dismissed from your pre-major or from the University. At the end of each term, if you are no longer in good standing, you will receive an email notification sent to your official Ohio State email address with the terms of your dismissal.
Reinstatement Process
If you are dismissed from the University, you will be eligible to apply for reinstatement after two (2) semesters away from Ohio State. You can request an appointment with an EHE academic advisor to discuss the reinstatement process and plan for success at Ohio State. The reinstatement petition is an opportunity for you to provide the review committee with context about the causes of your academic difficulty, an analysis of the steps you are currently taking or plan to take to improve your academic performance, and evidence of any progress you have already made. Each student case is reviewed individually, and the review committee will consider reinstatement to students who have provided sufficient evidence that they will be successful if allowed to return to the program.
