Doctor of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning, Innovative Arts, Literacies, and Languaging

Innovative Arts, Literacies, and Languaging engages the arts such as dramatic inquiry, performing arts and storytelling, for creating and cultivating transformative communities through which people author their learning and lives. We are committed to literacy research and pedagogies that value social, cultural, ethical and political experiences, insights and practices developed through languaging and the arts. We are also committed to exploring how language can be used to better understand human interactions, particularly as it relates to power, personhood and issues of equity and inclusion in schools and communities. Through our relationships with families, young people, communities and schools we strive to cultivate scholarship that values more equitable, just, critical and humanizing understanding of literacy, languaging, and the arts.

Students who began the T&L PhD program in AU24 or prior should follow the curriculum of one of the 8 areas of study associated with the PhD program prior to its redesign. This specialization only pertains to students who began in AU25, or, those who began prior and have already discussed and executed a specialization change with their faculty advisor.
