Clinical Mental Health Counseling Concentration
The Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). This program emphasizes holistic approaches that focus on social justice and advocacy, addressing the diverse and unique needs of clients and their communities. Our goal is to develop future counselors through a lifelong journey of reflection and discovery, engaging with various demographics across settings such as community agencies, hospitals, private practices, schools, college campuses, and correctional facilities. Through a comprehensive curriculum that includes clinical coursework, practica, and internships, students will learn core counseling theories, practical skills, diagnostic and assessment procedures, and ethical practices. This prepares them for successful clinical practice and licensing examinations, including the National Counselor Exam, enabling them to earn the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential.
The MA Clinical Mental Health Concentration is a two-year, in-person, intensive program held at the Ohio State Columbus campus, with evening classes and a 9-month schedule that excludes summer courses.. All faculty and adjunct instructors bring a diverse range of clinical expertise and education that support our students’ growth throughout their academic journey. We collaborate with numerous local community- based, private practice, school-based, hospital, and college counseling centers to offer students top-quality supervision and hands-on field experiences that promote success and prioritize student wellness.

The Counselor Education program at The Ohio State University has been a valuable choice for me, offering numerous opportunities for personal, academic, and professional growth. Under our respected professors' guidance, exploring counseling and mental health has been an enriching learning experience. Dr. Darcy's expertise and commitment to suicide prevention have been invaluable in my development as a counselor. The supportive environment of the program is evident, with faculty members dedicated to fostering personal and professional growth. Additionally, the program provides various professional development opportunities, such as involvement in research teams, attendance at conferences, and participation in career workshops. We encourage students to apply for EHE scholarships. The college annually awards scholarships to its students to support their academic goals.
Program requirements
The Counselor Education program will no longer require the GRE as an admissions requirement.
